CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A motorcyclist died in a single-vehicle wreck in Catawba County Sunday morning, but his body wasn't discovered until more than 24 hours later.

The wreck happened on Heavner Road at the intersection of Highway 10, about 10 miles west of Newton.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the time of the accident is estimated to be about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday. However, the victim's body wasn't found until 1 p.m. on Monday.

The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Nathan Brittain, of Connelly Springs in eastern Burke County.

A state trooper said Brittain was operating a 2006 Honda motorcycle and was heading northbound on Heavner Road at a 100 mph.

When he approached the "T" intersection, Brittain ran off the road, and went up an embankment, the trooper said.

Some parts of the motorcycle were found in a nearby tree.

When Brittain never arrived home, a missing person's report was filed with the Catawba County Sheriff's Office.

On Monday, a detective drove the route in which Brittain would have taken from his friend's house to return home.

When the detective arrived at this intersection, he noticed debris and then discovered Brittain's body.
