Firefighter rewards city council with "Patriotic Employer" certificate

HICKORY - During the February 15 Hickory City Council meeting, Hickory Firefighter Patrick Auton presented Hickory City Council with the certificate of “Patriotic Employer” which is given by the Employee Support of the Guard and Reserve. 

Auton has also recommended the City of Hickory receive a higher-level award from the Employee Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) called “Above and Beyond.”

HICKORY - The Friends of Hickory Public Library will hold their “4th Saturday Book Sale” on February 26.  The sale runs from10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library. 

The library is located at 375 3rd Street NE on the SALT Block.  Please bring your own bags, if you can.

Reader's Digest gives $1,000 to Hickory

HICKORY - About two dozen people, Mayor Wright, City Council members, and Conrad the Crawdad came out in the rain to welcome Reader’s Digest representatives on the “We Here You America Tour” in Downtown Hickory on Union Square on Tuesday. 

Reader’s Digest presented Mayor Rudy Wright a $1,000 check.  Mayor Wright will discuss how to spend it with the City Council at the next meeting on February 1. 

Hickory By Choice 2030 receives stamp of approval

HICKORY - The Hickory City Council accepted Hickory By Choice 2030 (HBC 2030) during its January 18 meeting, and also adopted the new Land Development Code (LDC), and zoning map. Hickory staff, HBC 2030 committee, citizens and City Council, have been working on the updated plan, code and map for almost two years.

“The Planning and Development Department is very much pleased with City Council’s acceptance of the Hickory By Choice 2030 Plan, the Land Development Code and the official zoning map,” said City of Hickory Planning and Development Director Brian Frazier.

HICKORY - Hickory Church of the Master UCC members Nevin and Cecil Mae Feather recently donated a large amount of dry hard wood to Exodus Works Thrift Store to help support the employment program of Exodus Homes, a faith based United Way agency that provides supportive housing for homeless recovering people.
