HICKORY, NC (WBTV) – A dozen protesters showed up at the Ridgeview Pool in Hickory Monday morning just as heavy equipment moved in to tear the facility down.

Despite pleas from police to move outside the barricades surrounding the work, three protesters held their ground. All three wound up in handcuffs and charged with failing to disperse, a misdemeanor. No one spent time behind bars; bond was set as unsecured, meaning no cash was needed to be set free.

The protests came as the heavy work began to demolish the 50-year-old Ridgeview pool. Dump trucks brought in load after load of dirt and another piece of equipment tore up the concrete. By evening the pool had been filled in.
