Blogger inspires weight loss nationwide, comes to Charlotte

CHARLOTTE - For blogger Ben Davis - a simple promise to his grandmother to lose weight and get happy - has turned into success.  Lots and lots of success.

Ben started a blog called Ben Does Life, which chronicled his daily life and his journey to lose weight. 120 pounds later - Ben is an avid 5K runner, marathoner and ironman.

And he's coming to Charlotte on Thursday night to meet with some of the people that he has inspired.  Ben, whose blog has been read by thousands of people, is taking part in a nationwide tour to meet with his readers - to learn more about their stories - and tell his.

Charlotte is the sixth stop on Ben's 31-city tour that will span the next five weeks.  In each location, Ben and his crew will run a 5K and sit down for a meet up.

Call for help: Type O blood needed!

Call for help: Type O blood needed!

The supply of type O negative blood at the American Red Cross has dropped to critically low levels.  Type O negative blood is always in high demand because it can be transfused to patients with any blood type, especially in emergency situations.   Type O negative donors are needed now to help prevent the type O negative blood supply from declining further.

“The American Red Cross is reaching out to eligible blood donors, sponsors and community leaders to ask them to help recruit type O negative blood donations to help meet the needs of patients in our community,” said Joyce Brendel, CEO of the American Red Cross Carolinas Blood Region.

While all blood types are needed during the summer months, the Red Cross urges those eligible donors with O negative blood type to make and keep appointments in the upcoming days to help restore the blood supply.
